To save doing the calculations, several sites will give you your 'best buy'. You should have your bills for the last year to hand. Calculate your total payments for gas and electricity.

If you are of pensionable age, apply to join your supplier's Priority Service Register. This provides services such as a password scheme for meter reading, a free annual safety check and special controls.
