It is very important that to reduce the number of unwanted KITTENS this year your CAT should be NEUTERED.  Southend Cats Protection group can help you with this and there is an offer to subsidise the cost through Cats Protection Neutering service. (£20 malecat/£26female) for people in the southend area - SS0/SS1/SS2/SS3/SS4 and SS9.

You can 'phone Rita on Southend  710630 to find out about the details for the Neutering of your CAT.

MICROCHIPPING

Cat owners in Southend are being encouraged to keep their pets safe this summer by having their feline friend microchipped.  Cats Protection Southend is once again supporting National Microchipping Month this June and are reminding owners of the benefits of microchipping.

Having a cat microchipped is a cheap and simple way of providing a permanent identification for the thousands of cats which go missing every year.  This is always an unhappy time for their owners and you will see many lost cats reported in local newspapters, and even with posters placed on lamposts.

for more information about microchipping and the work of Southend Cats Protection please contact Alison; 01702 334290.

If your cat is registered with Petlog, there will be no charge to update details in June if you have chanced your address.  Just go to website; www.petlog.org.uk  free.

A CATTY STORY (A TRUE READ)

JAMES BOWEN  was a homeless 19 year old who slept rough in London for two years hoping to find shelters until a flat came up.  After living there for a couple of months he spotted a lame cat which he saw on a daily basis.  He took him to the RSPCA they gave him two weeks dose of antibiotics.  The cat got better and they became good friends James called the ginger cat Bob.  To make a bit of money James went busking on the underground, one day Bob jumped on the bus and travelled with him, from then on Bob joined in the busking by sitting on James's shoulders with a scarf.  People started knitting him different scarves.  If you would like to read more a book has been printed called 'A Street Cat Named Bob' by James Bowen @ £14.99, Hodder and Stoughton.

RETIRED GREYHOUNDS AS PETS

These graceful animals make excellent pets and are very good with people at home, including children, and quickly return the affection and love given to them. They are very laid-back and make good companions. Homed responsibly, they can live with other pets including cats.

Contrary to popular belief, they need very little exercise. 2 or 3 short walks a day is all that is required. Sleeping is their favourite pastime, closely followed by eating!
