A HUGE thank you to Inter-Church Caring!

On the 11th of December we were thrilled to receive a donation of £15,000 from local charity, Inter-Church Caring.

Inter-Church Caring was established in 1972 when Geoff Derrick opened a Saturday Morning Club for the elderly and disabled in the borough of Southend. Geoff then took over a luncheon club and both clubs proved to be extremely popular. Following identification of a need Geoff and others set up a care home which ran alongside the clubs for many years. When Geoff died his son, Brian, continued Geoff’s work and the clubs continued to thrive.

Unfortunately due to financial pressure the care home had to be closed in 2012 but the clubs continued until mid 2019 when, due to ill health, Brian had to give up his work and the clubs had to close. The charity, however, continues and plans to use its resources to make donations to charitable organisations in the area. We are delighted that Inter-Church Caring have chosen Age Concern Southend to be one of their first benefactors,

Stuart Mennel, trustee of Inter-Church Caring said, “The Trustees of Inter-church Caring wish Lin Boulter and her team every success in pursuit of their work with the elderly in the area.”

We cannot say thank you enough to the team at Inter-Church Caring as this money will help us to buy furniture, finish building work and purchase activity equipment to make The Haven Older People’s Community Hub thrive for the benefit of older people across our community.

Thank you!
