We offer a variety of support, advice and services at Age Concern Southend including:
Our befriending service is open to any over 60’s who may feel isolated or lonely or do not see anyone on a regular basis due to health or mobility issues. Our team of over 100 befriending volunteers are matched with older people in their area and will visit their befriendee once a week to have a chat, maybe a cup of tea or two and get to know each other.
This service is also offered as a telephone service. Both options are free of charge.
To refer yourself or someone you know (please make sure you have their permission before referring someone else), please contact Pam, Julia or Jane on 01702 345373.
Our community transport service provides lifts to vital medical appointments, to visit friends and family, to get out and about in the community and to attend activities such as community clubs. Whilst most lifts we provide are in the Southend area we will occasionally make trips further afield if needed.
All of our community transport drivers are volunteers however we do ask for a 47p per mile fee to cover costs such as petrol, insurance and wear and tear of the drivers vehicles. Every one of our volunteer drivers are fully insured, DBS checked and hold a full UK driving license.
Age Concern Southend also have a minibus and 7 seater vehicle that are available for hire.
If you would like to use our community transport service, or hire one of our vehicles, please call Pete on 01702 345373. All lifts require a minimum 3 days notice to arrange and depend on a driver being available in your area so please do give our team plenty of notice when arranging appointments.
Please note that medical appointments will always be given priority when arranging community transport lifts.
We currently run four community clubs across Southend and the surrounding areas. For more information on our community clubs please click here.
