Days at The Haven opens 18th November!
On the 18th of November Age Concern Southend will be opening a new day centre for older people in The Haven Community Hub, Westcliff.
The day centre will be called Days at The Haven will be run in partnership with care agency Doris Jones who have recently received outstanding status from the Care Quality Commission. It has been a long journey to get the day centre up and running, the room was previously the clothing section of Havens department store and it has been a challenging 12 months fundraising and working with our team of builders to create a welcoming space that 15 people per day will be able to enjoy (plus a team of fully trained carers of course).

Once open, Days at The Haven will provide a safe space for older people who need higher levels of care to take part in activities such as gentle exercise, games, art, crafts and music as well as mindfulness activities. A hot, two course lunch will also be provided by the community café located in The Haven, Treat Street Café. The day centre will be open from 10am to 3.30pm and options will be available for half day or full day stays.
Volunteers will be on hand alongside the team of Doris carers to help run activities and keep our guests company throughout their day. Recruitment is open for more volunteers to help make our day centre extra special and work experience placements for those looking to go into care work may be available once the centre is fully operational.

Activity planning is now well under way as the final touches are put on the day centre and the wet room is installed. We would love to hear from anyone who may be able to donate arts and crafts materials, musical instruments (like tambourines or shakers) or even art work to display on the day centre walls.
The final touches to the painting and wiring with 10 days to go until opening! Lots of work still to do!
