Keeping in touch by phone

As we all continue to follow the Government’s guidelines, many older people in the our community have now been in isolation for quite a few weeks. At Age Concern we understand and recognise how this can affect a person’s well being. Many who were lonely and without social contact before the pandemic are now feeling even more isolated and vulnerable.

Our fantastic team of telephone befrienders have been absolutely brilliant in helping to make sure that no-one feels alone and gets the support they need.

We have welcomed a large number of extra emergency telephone volunteers bringing the total number to 65. Between them, they are reaching over 275 older people with a call for a friendly chat once or twice a week.

A big thank you to these volunteers who are giving up just a little of their time from their own homes to make this happen.

There are lot’s of volunteering opportunities with Age Concern and you can learn more here. Volunteering.
