The Haven Older People’s Community Hub, which opened to Club 50+ in April 2019, is a safe “haven” for older people to get help, access services and take part in activities from cookery classes to belly dancing.
Located in the stunning, grade II listed Havens department store building, the hub is currently located on the first floor but will eventually be spread over two floors once funding has been secured for the final stages of building works. Age Concern Southend have currently raised £335,000 but have a little further to go with building costs being estimated at around £460,000.
The first floor is now open as the new home of Club 50+ and Treat Street Kiosk, building works having been completed on that floor in early 2019. Club 50+ offer a variety of activities which can be found by visiting their page by clicking here.
Once completed the ground floor will host a thriving community cafe, a dementia day care centre for 15 people and 6 rooms that will host a variety of services including:
Public Health (including flu jabs and dressing changes)
and much, much more.
Building work is currently underway at The Haven and we hope to open the ground floor in November 2019. We need to raise £460,000 of which we have successfully raised £335,000 so far but we still have a long way to go to make The Haven happen!
